Triumph Without Walls
Community Based Day Supports Rooted in Real Life
At Thrive Support & Advocacy, we believe that meaningful lives are built in the community, not within the walls of a traditional program. Without Walls is our fully community based day program designed to support individuals in building skills, relationships, and purpose through real world experiences.
Serving individuals across Worcester County and Middlesex West, Thrive Without Walls (WOW) reflects Thrive’s commitment to person centered, community integrated supports that empower individuals to live full and connected lives.
What is Without Walls (WOW)?
The Community Is the Program
Without Walls is exactly what it sounds like.
There is no single program site. Instead, the community becomes the classroom, the workplace, and the social hub. Participants spend their days engaged in meaningful activities throughout their local communities, building skills in real environments alongside real people.
This includes
- Volunteering with local organizations
- Exploring employment and internship opportunities
- Participating in recreational and social activities
- Developing everyday skills in natural settings like grocery stores, cafés, gyms, and public spaces
Every experience is intentional, individualized, and connected to each person’s goals.
Built Around the Individual
At the core of WOW is person centered planning. Each participant’s schedule is built around their interests, strengths, and goals, not a preset program model.
Through structured planning and ongoing conversations, individuals:
- Help design their weekly schedules
- Explore new interests and opportunities
- Build toward employment and greater independence
- Develop meaningful roles in their communities
We do not plan for individuals, we plan with them.
A Pathway to Employment and Independence
Without Walls is grounded in Community Life Engagement principles, with a strong focus on helping individuals move toward meaningful day activity and employment.
Participants have access to:
- Job exploration and job shadowing
- Volunteer placements that build real skills
- Internship opportunities
- Pathways to supported and competitive employment
With Thrive’s existing employment services and community partnerships, individuals can move along a continuum from exploration to paid work at their own pace.
Small Groups, Real Support
Participants are supported in small groups, typically with a one staff to three or four participant ratio, ensuring individualized attention while promoting independence and peer connection.
Our staff are highly trained in:
- Community based support and engagement
- Person centered planning and LifeCourse principles
- Positive behavioral supports and de-escalation
- Safety and situational awareness in community settings
Staff act as facilitators and coaches, helping individuals navigate community environments safely and confidently.
